What’s going on?
Another heatwave is set to develop from midweek onwards, in what has become a familiar occurrence for some parts of the UK this summer. As high pressure builds, day after day of sunshine will lift temperatures as high as the low 30s in places, along with rising humidity.
Which parts of UK will see a heatwave?
As with all of the heatwaves so far this summer, this one will be focused across England and Wales. However, some parts of Scotland may also see a heatwave by the end of the weekend.

How will this heatwave differ to the last one?
The forthcoming heatwave is likely to produce peak temperatures that are lower than the last heatwave. However, the forthcoming heatwave is likely to last longer - possibly into early next week for parts of England and Wales.
Why will this heatwave differ to the last one?
The last heatwave saw a combination of high pressure allowing heat to build day by day, along with an injection of heat from the nearby continent. This heatwave will only have the former - hence peak temperatures likely being lower.
Satellite imagery of Texas flooding rain
Late last week, catastrophic flooding hit the Guadalupe River to the northwest of San Antonio, causing significant loss of life and destruction in Kerr County and the surrounding area.
The flooding was caused by a complex of thunderstorms that became stationary over the area - as seen in the satellite imagery below from CSU/CIRA & NOAA - dumping around 10 inches of rain in just a few hours.
Flood risk for eastern Europe
Heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect parts of Europe this week - stretching from Slovenia, through Austria and Poland, into Belarus. Up to 150mm of rain could fall in places, bringing a risk of flooding.
